My name is Lauren Jones and I work at the Nova Scotia Human Rights Commission as a Restorative Facilitator in the legal unit. I work with parties to resolve conflict using restorative approaches. I am passionate about restorative justice and human rights and am able to combine these interests in my current position. I have a background in law and criminology, where I focused my educational attention on human rights, restorative justice and prisoners' rights.

I received a Masters of International Law and Human Rights from UPeace in 2005-2006, where my thesis focused on human rights in prisons and recommended the use of restorative justice to lessen harm and prevent further crime and victimization.

I have a passion for learning which has always focused on human rights, restorative justice or prisoners rights and the combination of these. This course will be an opportunity to further learn the connectedness of my passions from a theoretical and practical point of view, beyond my own practical knowledge, for example, in other areas where conflict resolution skills/approaches can be succesfully utlized to address human rights issues or violations.
