I am Yahya Mohamed Abdi from Somaliland. Formerly, British Somaliland Protectorate gained independence on 26th of June, 1960 and Voluntarily joined to trust territory of Somalia and formed Somali Republic on 1 July,1960. Currently Somaliland is de facto state and declared independence from the rest of Somalia on 18 May 1991. Somaliland is more peaceful in comparing with Somalia.
I currently work as Somaliland National Youth Umbrella (SONYO) as Human resource and Administration Manager. SONYO is a non-political and non-profit-making nationwide youth umbrella organization which is dedicated to improve quality of life of the youth through provision of services and programmes tailored to their social, physical, mental and spiritual development.Our thematic work, is not limited to this, including youth leadership development, policy advocacy and studies; Economic growth and youth enterprise development; peace building, human rights, and democratization; networking and coordination.
I also worked with different organizations including University of Hargeisa, Ministry of Livestock/African Union-Inter African Bureau for Animal resources (AU-IBAR), Somaliland Youth Society (SYS Burao) and business organizations. I am also roster at World food programme (WFP).
I really excited in joining this course and I hope we will fully understand the relationship between alternative dispute resolution (ADR), Human rights violations and other factors associated with it as well as actively be engaged with our communities.
